CEREC®
CEREC® has revolutionized dental procedures, particularly for crowns, onlays, inlays, and dental veneers. Traditionally, restoring damaged teeth required multiple visits and a long waiting time. With CEREC®, these ceramic restorations are created within minutes in the dental office, allowing many treatments to be completed in just a single visit.
CEREC® uses computer-assisted design (CAD) tools and a milling machine to create custom ceramic restorations on-site. This means the dentist can place the restoration immediately, reducing the time, cost, and discomfort for patients.

What is the CEREC® System?
-
The CEREC® system, also known as CAD-CAM (Computer Assisted Design and Computer Assisted Milling), consists of three major components:
-
Acquisition Device: A high-quality camera and computer take detailed, 3D images of the prepared tooth.
-
Three-dimensional CAD Software: This software allows the dentist to view the tooth from all angles and design the perfect restoration.
-
Milling Device: This device manufactures the custom restoration from the specifications entered into the computer. A ceramic block matching the tooth color is used to create the restoration within minutes.
What Does a CEREC® Restoration Procedure Involve?
-
Preparation: The dentist removes any tooth decay and shapes the tooth to create an ideal surface for the restoration.
-
Impression: Titanium dust is applied to the tooth to create a detailed image using CEREC®'s optical camera.
-
Design: The dentist designs the restoration using CAD software, which is then transmitted to the milling device.
-
Creation: A ceramic block is chosen to match the tooth color, and the restoration is milled in about 15 minutes.
-
Fitting: The restoration is dry-fitted, polished, and then affixed with dental cement.
All of this is done in one visit, saving time and ensuring high-quality results that match laboratory restorations. If you have any questions about CEREC®, be sure to ask your dentist!
